Hoi An - Best time to go
The short answer: plan Hoi An for late February through April for the most comfortable weather, fewer heavy rains, and vibrant local life.
Why that period is best?
- Weather: warm and dry with moderate humidity — pleasant for walking the Ancient Town, cycling to rice paddies, and beach days.
- Less rain and lower flood risk than the typhoon/rainy season (Sept–Nov).
- Tourist crowds are moderate compared with the summer and Tet holiday peaks.
- Many shops, tailors, cafes, and boats are operating normally.
Quick month-by-month summary
- Jan–Feb: Cool to mild (18–25°C / 64–77°F). Tet (Lunar New Year) may fall here — very festive but hotels and transport fill up and some businesses close.
- Mar–Apr: Best compromise — warm, dry, sunny (mid-20s–low 30s °C / mid-70s–high 80s °F). Ideal for sightseeing, lantern-lit evenings, and beaches.
- May–Aug: Hot and humid, with highest temperatures and peak tourist season in July–August (crowds, higher prices). Good beach weather but plan for heat.
- Sep–Nov: Rainy season and increased flood/typhoon risk (heavy showers, October floods historically possible). Lower prices and fewer tourists but weather can disrupt plans.
- Dec: Cooler, pleasant days but occasional rain; atmosphere is quieter and cheaper than spring/summer.
